Joshua Melamed, MD

My name is Joshua Melamed. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I was privileged to attend UCLA for my undergraduate studies where I obtained my BA in History and completed my pre-medical studies, graduating with a Phi Beta Kappa distinction. I then went on to medical school at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, this is where I developed my love for cardiothoracic surgery and medical knowledge base. While I considered moving permanently Israel I found my calling at Mount Sinai South Nassau where I matched into their general surgery program. At Mount Sinai I developed a unique surgical acumen and skill set that allowed me to thrive as a resident. After 5 years of general surgery residency, I was fortunate enough to continue my training in cardiothoracic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. It was finally there where I had the opportunity to pursue my dream and refine my skill set. At the College I trained primarily on the Da Vinci surgical robot, the most advanced surgical platform available. I quickly learned that this tool would be pivotal in optimizing my management of thoracic disease. My teachers at South Nassau often said if I ever wanted to come back to New York they would hire me without question, thinking that as a native of California I would surely go back. But, I developed a love for New York and my wife (a native of Long Island) that drew me back. I am honored to be working on Long Island and serving the population of the south shore with the most advanced technology, ensuring optimal outcomes and unparalleled patient satisfaction.
